Today, the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of ANAS celebrations March 8 the “International Women’s Day”


Director of IMM, doctor of phys. Math. sci. prof. Misir Mardanov opened the meeting and congratulated the women employees of the institute on the occasion of this holiday and wished them a sound health, happiness and successes in their life. Then the woman employees of the institute were presented with gifts from the staff of the institute.
March 8 is the international solidarity day of women in their struggle for economic, social and political equality. In 1910, at the II International Conference of socialist women (Copenhagen) Clara Zetkin has proposed to celebrate the International Women’s Day.
For the first time the Women’s Day was celebrated in 1911 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Denmark. In Russian it was celebrated in 1913, in Azerbaijan in 1917. Till 1914 the International Women’s Day has been held in different days. After celebrating this day on March 8 in Austria, Hungary, Russia, the USA, etc. this became a tradition.
Since then the 8 th of March is celebrated as the day of solidarity for peace. After gaining independence, in Azerbaijan the International Women’s Day, March 8 is a non-working day.
