Сorresponding member of the NAS of Azerbaijan, professor Bilal Bilalov was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of Ganja State University

Professor Bilal Bilalov, the head of the Department of Non-Harmonic Analysis of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, and the corresponding member of the NAS of Azerbaijan, was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of Ganja State University on April 3, 2017.

Bilal Telman oglu Bilalov was born on January 2, 1963, in the village of Farahli, Gazakh region of Azerbaijan. In 1986, he graduated from the Department of Applied Mathematics of Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU). In 1986-1989, B.Bilalov was a full time postgraduate student at MSU, and defended his candidate’s thesis entitled Completeness and Basicity of Some Systems in 1989 under the scientific guidance of Academician Yu.I. Moiseev. In 1990-1993, he worked as an assistant at the Institute of Technology of Azerbaijan.

In 1993-1996, B. Bilalov was a full time doctoral student at MSU, and defended his doctoral thesis entitled Basis Properties of Exponential Systems and Their Generalization in 1996 to obtain the degree of Doctor of sciences in physics and mathematics. The same year, he was enrolled by the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, NAS of Azerbaijan, as a senior researcher (later to be promoted to the position of leading researcher). Since 2001, B. Bilalov has been in charge of the Department of Non-Harmonic Analysis of IMM, NAS of Azerbaijan. In 2009, he was promoted to professor in mathematical analysis, and, five years later, in 2014, professor Bilalov was elected a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

The main research areas of B.T. Bilalov include approximation theory, theory of basicity, frame theory, wavelet analysis, spectral theory of operators, boundary value problems for analytic functions, fuzzy theory, mathematical methods for pattern recognition.

B.T. Bilalov is the author of more than 190 scientific works, including three monographs. 15 PhD students have defended their theses under his scientific guidance, and, as a scientific consultant, he submitted the theses of two students to the Higher Attestation Commission of Azerbaijan for the degree of Doctor of Sciences.

Professor Bilalov is also the editor-in-chief of Azerbaijan Journal of Mathematics included in the Emerging Sources Citation Index, Thomson Reuters.
