Ptolemy Claudis (87-165) is ancient Greek scientist, is the founder of world’s geocentric system. There is a few information about Ptolemy. It is known that he has spent a great part of his life in Alexandria and here he carried out astronomical observations.
His works had great influence on development of astronomy, geography and optics. His important work is “Almagest” consisting of 13 books. In the first book, rectilinear and spherical trigonometry and Ptolemy’s theorem were commented. This work is the ancient Greek Source in this field and before N. Copernicus work “On rotation of heaven sphere” was an indispensable source on elucidation of all astronomical knowleges.
Ptolemy’s role in navigation and definition of coordinates is very great. He has calculated approximate value of the number π, composed the table of sines. For a long time it was a unique source for solving the problems on a triangle.
