Today, at the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of ANAS, the international Conference “Modern Problems of Mathematics and Mechanics”, dedicated to 80 th anniversary of the mathematician scientist, honored scientist, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, academician, vice-president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, academician-secretary of the Physics, Mathematics and Technical Sciences Department Akif Gadjiev was held.
Director of IMM, corr. member of ANAS prof. M.Mardanov opened the event and said that A.Gadjiev is one of the rare personalities who created a school in mathematics science. Prof. M.Mardanov delivered a report on the scientific and pedagogical activity of the scientist and noted that in the seventieth of the XX century A.Gadjiev continued his researches in the approximation theory and received important scientific results in the study of linear positive sequences of operators approximating continuous functions in finite segment and got serious results in the study of liner operators and investigation of approximate properties of these operators that were highly appreciated by the experts.
In 2002 A.Gadjiev was selected an academician of ANAS, acad. secretary of physical-mathematical and Technical Sciences department of ANAS, in 2005 the director of IMM.
In 2002-2005 he was a chairman of the Expert commission on mathematics and mechanics of Supreme Attestation Commission under President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and of the Defense Council at IMM. Acad. A. Gadjiev was a member of the editorial board of “News of ANAS”, “Trans. of ANAS”, “News of ASPU”, and editor-in-chief of “Proc. of IMM, ANAS” journals.
The talented scientist and researcher Akif Hajiyev has been President of the Azerbaijani Mathematical Society since 2010 and has rendered invaluable services in the development of mathematical and mechanical sciences in the country. Today, well-known scientists from different countries of the world publish their articles in Azerbaijan Journal of Mathematics, which is published and edited by the Azerbaijani Mathematical Society. This magazine was included in the initial database of Thomson Reuters on December 22, 2015.
The State has highly appreciated the many-sided, tense and productive labor, theoretical and practical results gained by Akif Gadjiev, his pedagogical activity, invaluable services as science organizer, development and promotion of mathematical sciences. He was awarded the Order of Glory in 2004 under the orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and in 2005 was honored “Honored Scientist”.
Professor Misir Mardanov also noted that academician Akif Hajiyev, a well-known follower of known mathematicians such as Zahid Khalilov, Ashraf Huseynov and Ibrahim Ibrahimov, is the author of more than 210 scientific works. The results of his researches are reflected in more than 100 scientific works and 4 monographs published in our country and beyond. Academician Akif Gadjiev has trained dozens of doctors of philosophy and physical-mathematical sciences in mathematics in Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Academician Akif Gajiev’s scientific heritage is successfully continued by his students and colleagues, his dear memory is recognized by who knows him and by the Azerbaijani mathematicians.
Lead. res. ass. of IMM, professor Nadir Suleymanov, Deputy Director on Scientific Affairs, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Vagif Guliyev, Head of Non-Harmonic Analysis Department of ANAS Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, corresponding member of ANAS , Professor Bilal Bilalov, Associate Professor of Yildiz Technical University Yusif Zeren, associate professor of the Kırıkkale University Sevgi Esen shared their memories about academician Akif Hajiyev with the conference participants.
Then head of “Nonharmonic Analysis” department corr. member of ANAS prof. B.Bilalov delivered plenary talk on “Statistical convergence, generalization, continuity variant and application to Fourier-Stiltjes transforms”, the head of “Greeping theory” prof. Latif Talybly a talk “Methods for solving general-quasistatic problems of visco-elasticity theory and its applications”.
During 2 days, about 160 talks on ‘Harmonic and nonharmonic Analysis”, “Functional Analysis”, “Geometry, topology and Algebra”, Approximation Theory”, “Partial Differential Equation”, “Operator Theory and spectral analysis”, “Applied analysis”, “Continuum mechanics”, “Optimal control problems”, ‘Probability theory and stochastic analysis”, “Mathematical Physics”, “History and teaching methods of mathematics” will be listened.
It should be noted that the talks were submitted from the higher education institutions of the Republic, from ANAS institutes, from Turkey, Iran, Kirkizstan and Russian republic.
