This year, a known specialist in the field of functional analysis, differential equations and spectral theory of functions Faramaz Maksudov would be 87.

He was born on March 20, 1930 in Nakhchivan Autonomons Republic. In 1954 graduated from “Mechanics-Mathematics” faculty of Baku State University with honours diploma, in 1954-1957 was a post graduate student of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, in 1959 defended PhD dissertation “Discreteness of the spectrum, and completeness of eigen and adjoint functions of non-self-adjoint differential operators” under the guidance of acad. Zahid Khalilov.
In 1974 he defended doctor’s degree dissertation “Some problems of spectral theory of continuous spectrum polynomial operator bundles”.
His activity was closely connected with the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of NASA. He has begun his labour activity as a senior research associate (1957) and in 1976 became the director of the Institute. In 1976 he was elected a corresponding member of the Academy. In 1981 he was appointed the Academic-Secretary of Physical-Technical Mathematical department of the Academy in 1997 he was elected the President of NASA and till the end of his life he has worked at this post. F. Maksudov’s labour was highly evaluated, in 1983 he was awarded the prize of the Councie of Ministers of the USSR, in 1986 the “Friendship” order, in 1990 the name of “Honoured scientific worker” was conferred upon him. He was elected the full number of the International Islam Academy.
F. Maksudov has authored 209 scientific papers, a number of textbooks and monographs. 65 PhD dissertations were completed under his guidance. He has participated and given lectures at the conferences held in Moscow (1956-1966), Odessa (1957), Budapest, Ankara (1987), Mashad (1991), Istanbul (1991). In the first year of independence of our Republic as a member of the Parliament he has participated in social life of the Republic.
F. Maksudov passed away on August 30, 2000 and buried in Alley of Honours.
The Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics honors his memory with great respect. His memory will always live in the hearts of people who loves him.
