Today, at the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of ANAS, at the commemorative event dedicated to the January 20 tragedy the selflessness of the brave sons of Azerbaijan was honored and their memory was remembered with great respect.
Director General of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Misir Mardanov spoke about the horrors of January 20 events. He spoke about the bloody massacres committed by the imperial army in Baku and other cities and regions of the country on the night of January 19-20, 1990, and the martyrdom of our brave sons and daughters who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. He stressed that it should become a sacred oath for our people, a glorious chronicle of our national will.
On the invitation of the Chairman of the Trade Union Committee of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of ANAS Assoc., prof. Irada Mirzazade, poet, publicist, playwright, prose writer, screenwriter, director, honored artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan, personal pensioner of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, colonel of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, screenwriter and host of the Victory Parade on December 10, 2020 in Baku – ABDULLAH GURBANI was the guest of the event.
Then Colonel Abdullah Gurbani said that January 20 is not only a tragedy in the history of Azerbaijan, but also the first peak of Azerbaijan’s path to independence, the day of the awakening of our national ideology’s desire for freedom. This is a glorious history in which the people living in captivity in the Soviet empire for many years raised their voices for freedom and showed courage for their sovereignty. This date was also another test of who was who.
Closing the event, the Director General of the Institute, prof. Misir Mardanov noted that “the blood of a martyr is sacred.” The great leader Heydar Aliyev gave him the most accurate assessment: “Every drop of that blood has the power of our people, the heroism of our people, the desire of our people for national freedom and independence. The blood shed that night is holy blood. They are the blood shed by our people for centuries for national freedom and independence, the blood shed that night is the blood on our national flag, which demonstrates the independence of Azerbaijan.
At the end, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of January 20. May God have mercy on our martyrs!
