Originator of function theory school in Azerbaijan, outstanding scientist in the field of function theory, approximation theory Ibrahimov Ibish oglu Ibrahimov was born on February 28, 1912 in Qargabazar village of Fizuli region of Azerbaijan. In 1935 he graduated from physics-mathematics faculty of Azerbaijan Pedagogical University with honors degree. In 1935-1936 he studied in post graduate course of Azerbaijan State University, in 1936-1938 at Moscow State University. In 1939, he defended his Phd dissertation “On completeness of some systems of analytic functions” supervised by the world-known mathematician-scientist A.O. Gelphand, I.Ibrahimov was the first Azerbaijanian candidate of mathematical sciences.
Studying the completeness of some systems composed by analytic function, I. Ibrahimov obtained classic results in the field of mathematical analysis. He had close relations and worked with famous mathematicians in the field of constructive theory of functions as M.V. Keldysh, S.N. Bernstein, S.M. Nikolskii, A.O. Gelphand, M.A. Lavrentyev and others.
He has authored over 170 scientific works including some monographs and textbooks. He has great merits in teaching and organization of higher mathematics in higher education institutions of the Republic. I. Ibrahimov’s book “Fundamentals of number theory” was published in 1955, the book “Fundamentals of theory of series” in 1957, the book “Mathematical Analysis Course” in 1962. In 1950-1952 years, translated K. Rosse and I. Privalo’s book consisting of two parts “Differential calculus” and “Integral calculus” written for higher education institutions, into the Azerbaijanian language. I. Ibrahimov has obtained important results in the field of approximation, theory of entire functions and was appreciated by world scientists.
He constructed new interpolations, gave for them convergence criteria and solved the two-point problem. Acad. I. Ibrahimov has supervised over 40 philosophy doctors and 4 doctor of sciences.
I.I. Ibrahimov was director of IMM, ANAS, President of Azerbaijan Mathematical Society. Acad. I.I. Ibrahimov was rewarded the honour title “Honored scientist”, and State Prize.
I.I. Ibrahimov passed away on October 6, 1994. His dear memory will forever live in the hearts who loves him.
God save his soul.
