Prof. Abdul Rahim Al-Kurdi, Professor of Arabic Language and Literature at Egyptian University of Suez Canal, delivered a lecture at Baku State University (BSU) and Baku Eurasia University within the project “Science in the World in Azerbaijan”.
Abdul Rahim Al-Kurdi briefed on the history of the Arabic language and its modern development, saying that the demand for this language has increased in modern times.
Head of the Center for Culture and Education of Egypt, of the embassy of the Egyptian Arab Republic in Azerbaijan Ahmed Sami Elaydi said that Arabic language was declared official language of the UN General Assembly in 1973. He said that since 2010, December 18 is celebrated as the International Arabic Language Day. It was stressed that the visit of Egyptian linguists to Azerbaijan will make a significant contribution to the strengthening of intercultural dialogue between the two nations.
At the meeting with Egyptian scholars at the Faculty of Theology at Baku State University academician Vasim Mammadaliyev spoke of the high position of the Arab language among the world’s languages. He emphasized the importance of developing scientific relations between the academicians and the Azerbaijani language specialists.
Professor of the University of Suez Canal noted that Arabic language departments are functioning at a number of prestigious universities in the world. Increased interest in the Arabic language has a great responsibility on the part of professionals in terms of simplifying language and adapting to the requirements of modern times.
At the meeting held at both universities, the exhibition of Calligrapher Mustafa Mohammad Amri was demonstrated. At the Center for Culture and Education of Egypt, Mustafa Muhammad Amrini’s “Calligraphy Art on Arabic” workshop was attended by students from various universities.
During the week, on the occasion of International Arabic language day, within “Islamic Solidarity Year” the meeting of Egyptian scientists with young people will go on at universities, science and education institutions.
