What idea of Mirza Fatali Akhundov in the late 19th century turned into an activity of national intelligentsia?

– “If the people are not brought up and the people are not literate, then all the hard work we do will be in vain.”

– In the end of the 19-th century what social and pedagogical problems were considered by M.F. Akhundov as necessary problems to be solved.

– He mentioned three important issues: 1) absence of mass public schools; 2) lack of public teachers; 3) absence of textbooks in the native language.

Newly opened schools lacked teachers. Teachers from state schools were invited either from Russia, or they were graduates of Tbilisi gymnasium.

Q: What were the works that M.F.Akhundov wanted to see in connection with alphabet in his enlightenment activities?

– These works were important in his activity. Great thinker’s fight for alphabet reform has also been intense. Although M.F. Akhundov failed to replace the arabic alphabet with Latin graphic alphabet when he was alive, the seeds that were planted by him, were “sprouted” yaers later and gave fluits.
