Who was “Persian Abbas”


 

Irevan province school was transformed to the progymnasium in 1868 and the classical gymnasium in 1881. In a short time it gained a great reputation in the region. One of the teachers teaching in the Iravan gymnasium was Abbas Mahammadzadeh, who taught Persian. He knew farsi well-known and because he was called “Persian Abbas”. He also taught at the boarding school and gymnasium. Abbas Mohammadzade has also prepared and published textbooks. The book “Guldasta”, published in the Orujov brothers’ printing house in Baku in 1912, included selections from the Eastern classics and Mirza Abbas’s poems written by “Razi” pseudonym. Mirza Abbas is the author of the textbook “Gift to children”, published in Budagov Printing house in 1913 in Baku, Tbilisi and Yerevan.
Abbas’s eldest son, Jabbar bey Mahammadzadeh, also devoted his life to people’s enlightenment. He graduated from Irevan Teachers Seminar in 1902, taught at Mehman, Gamarli, Imanshahli village for 4 years, came to work to boarding school from 1906, and in 1907 he taught the Azerbaijani language at the Iravan Teachers Seminar.
