Today at the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics the 24-th anniversary of Khojaly genocide. The event was opened by the director of IMM prof. Misir Mardanov. He spoke atrocious cruelty of Armenians and horrible massacres committed by Armenians in Khojaly with the help of the 366-th Motorized Rifle Regiment from the night of 25 February to February 26. The victims of the tragedy were commemorated with a moment’s silence.
Before the attack the city began firing from heavy artillery and heavy armored vehicles. As a result of firing the whole city was in fire. In this case, nearly 2,500 people living in the nearby of the city of Agdam and surrounded by Armenians were forced to leave the city the hope to rich the center. However, these plans failed. Armenian armed forces destroyed the city.
As a result, 613 people were killed, among them children – 63 people; women – 106; nursing – 70 people, 8 families were completely destroyed; 25 children lost both parents; 130 children lost one parent; 487 people were wounded, among them children – 76; 1,275 people were taken as prisoner, 150 people were missing.
By Azerbaijan Milli Majlis (Parliament), February 26 was declared “Khojaly genocide”.
Each year at 17:00, on February 26 the Azerbaijan people commemorates the victims of the Khojaly tragedy.
Displaced from their homes, Khojaly inhabitants living in 48 regions of Azerbaijan are hoping just settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict, end of aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan and restoring the country’s territorial integrity.
